Professor Olwen Williams OBE

Consultant in Sexual Health & HIV Medicine

From Physician to Farmer

I'm a Welsh-speaking Consultant physician who has worked in the field of Sexual Health and HIV medicine in North Wales for over 30 years.

I chair the Academy of Royal Colleges in Wales and am a member of the Welsh Government's 'Mwy Na Geiriau' (More than words) Partnership Board.

I've held key leadership posts, latterly as Vice President Royal College of Physicians (RCP) in Wales, President of British Association of Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH), and have sat on the EHRC Wales committee and BBC Audience Council. My commitment to developing and maintaining excellence within Medicine was acknowledged in the Queen's Birthday Honours 2005, when I was awarded an OBE for services to Medicine in Wales.

Outside medicine, I've developed a portfolio career in the Third Sector as a fundraiser and trustee — I'm currently Chair of Fast Track Cities charity and a trustee at GISDA (a young persons' homelessness charity).

I have a herd of rare breed Balwen sheep and I'm navigating the complexity of being a 'new entrant farmer'!
